Mexico Fine Art Film Wedding Photography

mexico1sm

As this season winds to a close I celebrated by fifth year photographing weddings. It has been an incredible five years full of discovery, excitement, hard work and bliss! I know that I am doing the right thing when I still wake up excited to go to work and leave a shoot with more energy than I started with. Simply put, photography excites me! I celebrated my 5th year anniversary by giving something back to myself- a photography workshop… A Jose Villa Mexico Workshop! But it was much more than simply photography- I walked away re-inspired and motivated to push my art to the next level. I am taking a step back to strengthen my roots by shooting all film( Yes..actual FILM!)  and giving myself space to reach and grow.

I am incredibly grateful for all of the speakers and sponsors who gave so generously of time, talent and experience:

{ nancy + pete } marin wedding photography

When I first met Nancy & Pete I knew I would love this couple – they were self-admitted foodies who were focused on having a fantastic time every moment of their wedding. The weekend celebration that Suzy Berberian created with them was a realization of that plan… Our engagement shoot in the Ferry Building, the rehearsal at the St. Francis Yacht Club and a wedding celebration at  Pacheco Ranch – (a nod to her parent’s wedding). Nancy pulled in other sentimental details  as well such as having her dress made from her late mother’s, custom cocktails from their favorite bar and we even re-created a few special moments that her parents shared on that same soil many years ago. The details and design were beautiful as well. Just look at that tent…need I say more!?

But most memorable was the laughter – Nancy and Pete have a way to make each other laugh that is simply perfect. Enjoy these images that hopefully will tell a bit of this beautiful day.

{rebecca + mike} timber cove . sonoma coast

This romantic wedding was held at the  elegantly rustic Timber Cove Inn, near  Jenner on the majestic Sonoma Coast. Mike, a biologist & Rebecca, an artist- both lovers of all natural things & madly in love with each other. Ever since my first conversation with Rebecca, I was looking forward to this intimate coastal wedding. She was so obviously smitten with her love & so excited about all of the thoughtful details that they put into the day. It was a delight to photograph their love on this joyful day!

{deeply rooted}

waiting for images to export; my mind wanders…here is my ramble.

I once heard a wonderful quote…something to the effect of,  “without being deeply rooted, one cannot grow new branches”. Not sure of the exact quote and if anyone knows, I would love to be corrected.

As for me, I love the art of wandering, discovering and exploring. As I sift through recent images from our destination shoots, I get giddy with images fresh & new to my eyes and heart. Then with a strong need to stretch and breath some fresh air, I stroll outside. The breeze gently lifts the leaves and embraces them for a moment before they glide back down. Songbirds call to their loved ones and I glance down at my toes…feeling the childish innocence of being tickeled by cool grass.

I feel rooted. I love my home and my roots in this valley are deep and  supported. Ah, it is good to leave. Ah, it is good to return home.

Here is an image from my travels; feeling the earth beneath my toes…graced with the ocean.

{Hawaii – Destination Wedding} SX-70 Polaroids

A few more Polaroids from John & Lauren’s Hawaii Wedding.

{destination hawaii: sx-70 polaroids} destination wedding photography- personal work

The last two weeks have been a joyful swirl of travels, beaches, blissful days, beautiful brides & amazing locations. We have just returned from two destination weddings: Hawaii & Aruba!  I have so much to share but wanted to begin with a bit of the personal work that I did while traveling around Hawaii. I bravely took along my SX-70 vintage Polaroid and had great fun experimenting with different shots. It is such a mental shift from a typical day in wedding photography and a breath of fresh air to my sense of creativity. Here’s a few from Hawaii:

Holy Moly 2010 Bookings!

Wow…can I just say that 2010 brides…I love you!  In the last two weeks, I have been flooded with 2010 inquires. So far I may be going to San Francisco, Aruba, Central Coast & of course, my home turf of the beautiful Napa Valley! Thank you to those of you who plan ahead. I’m loving hearing about these fabulous weddings and I can’t wait to be a part of them. I am always honored when you trust me with your wedding day and I am thrilled to share my work with you.  Keep ’em coming…
