{ Dana + Ninos } Calistoga Ranch . Calistoga CA

Classic beauty, true friends & the scent of lavender with every breeze…it was the scene of a gorgeous wedding. Dana & Ninos were married at Calistoga Ranch following a Rehearsal Dinner of Spanish Guitar, Paella & lawn games. Their guests were treated to not one but multiple days of celebration and celebrate they did in true style. The enjoyed the bounty of Napa Valley, old friendships and the generosity of family; but most of all, they celebrated the love that brought them all together. Ninos was smitten with Dana and her gorgeous smile revealed she felt the same. Isn’t love grand.

{nannete & bruce} calistoga ranch wedding

Nannete & Bruce had a very specific wedding day plan- to have fun! And believe me, fun was had by all.  With bright colors & lots of love & laughter…it was a wedding to remember! From Castello di Amorosa to Calistoga Ranch- the venues were exquisite, their smiles were frequent and they just kept surprising their guests!

Here, Nannete’s friend describes the weekend in full beautiful detail:

“Once upon a time in a magical land called Napa Valley, on a weather perfect weekend, there was a stunning couple whose constant smiles and laughter were only surpassed by the apparent love in their hearts.   And on this weekend they summoned their families, longtime friends and closest business partners…
The first night they assembled at an authentic Tuscan Castle , Castello di Amorosa. 5 towers, Church, Courtyard, Stables, 107 distinctive rooms, a drawbridge with moat, 8 levels, a dungeon and torture chamber, wine aging cellars in a grand barrel room and of course surrounded by a magnificent vineyard….

After castle tours and merriment, the guests joined the lord and lady in the Great Hall.  Seated in red velvet thrones at the head of long candle-lit tables, knights and maidens adorned the walls in storytelling murals of extraordinary size. Hundreds of glasses held flights of wine as each course was served. The evening crescendoed with an emotional performance by the Three Tenors of Napa.  They delivered long stem white roses to the ladies who swooned to their Italian love song serenades.

But wait, we are just now getting to the “event”.

On the opposite side of the valley, tucked away in the foothills is the Calistoga Ranch.  There the long awaited day was finally upon the bride and groom as he was replaced in his retreat by five giddy girlfriends starting bride prep at 10 a.m.   The crowd started arriving at five as they were ferried up the mountain side by six seater golf carts.  The groom and his male family members, all in white tuxes, led us across a bridge adorned with hundreds of brilliantly colored fresh flowers.  We found the outdoor wedding archways over looking the lake with a mountain panorama. Once again the lady guests in their finest evening attire escorted by their tux wearing sweeties gathered under parasols and waited to the sweet sounds of a string quartet. And then she arrived, her chariot was a cream colored Packard convertible. You could tell by the look on his face the dress was a complete surprise, dazzling emerald green. Time stood still as they exchanged their vows.  Our chests swelled with joyous emotion as tears filled our eyes.

Back to our carts and up the mountainside to the Wine Cave .  Candles and flowers made this unique structure fitting for our fairytale wedding party. As the photographer memorialized the joyous occasion, we shared Napa valleys finest wines and tasty tidbits while viewing a slide show of their first year together.   A transition was in play as the wedding site was transformed into an outdoor dinner party. After much toasting, family sentiment and fun stories we dined under the stars.

We followed Mr. and Mrs. Abrams back up the hill to the Wine Cave Disco complete with live band, unique wedding cake alcove and mall style photo booth. Guests made fun photos behind the curtain, mounted them on a scrapbook page, added guest type commentary and put them in an album for the happy couple to cherish always.   The festivities continued as all were delighted to surround the special couple with various forms of attempts at dancing, some were really, really great and some not so much HA but no one cared and Life was Good.

So now as our story comes to a close, the newlyweds are on their way to Hawaii for the honeymoon and the next chapter in their new life together. Our sole mates have a plan to treat every day as a new adventure. “

[breeze blows on} fall update

When I was in college many friends called be ‘Brie’, but one friend always called me ‘Breeze’. I loved the nickname because it made me feel free, light-hearted and described me well- as I was always in motion. Fast forward a few years…everything and nothing has changed. I still fancy myself free spirited, light-hearted and yes…I am always in motion.

When fall rolls around I catch myself smiling; embracing the cool mornings, crisp air, changing colors and the ever-increasing pace of life. It is always my busiest season and I must secretly admit- I do love it!

So…needless to say, the blog posts are a bit fewer and father between but here’s an update on the latest:

  • Weddings, Weddings & more weddings! Love is a joy to document…every single time.
  • Harvest- Commercial shoots for wineries telling the rich and passionate story of the vines. Love these VERY early mornings when I get to tromp through the vines, camera in hand trying to keep up with the hard-working pickers. Recently I was also hired by a wine brand to tell the story from vine to bottle A  story indeed- so excited to begin!
  • Yum!- Food Photography- My food & chef photography is expanding as I get more requests and find that I love this aspect of my business. Very excited about one current project where I will get to document the food & behind the scenes images of a local chef extraordinaire. More details coming soon…
  • Celebrations & Families- From baby’s first year, 50th wedding anniversaries, vow renewals,  cancer survival celebrations, birthdays, businesses opening and more… Can’t say I mind having the honor to capture these special moments. I even had the pleasure of working with one of my favorite clients at the family’s property in Carmel Valley, photographing them with their horses. Such a treat!
  • Local Businesses- ok, so how lucky am I that I am surrounded by a food & wine mecca?  Commercial photography runs the risk of  being boring but when you have clients like Calistoga Ranch, Clif Family Winery, Summit Lake Vineyards,  Hunnicutt, Moffett Wines, Arkenstone, St. Helena Coop, Queen of the Valley Hospital, Clark Claudon, Gott’s,… need I say more! My clients rock and that makes all the hard work worth every moment.
  • Charity –  Clinica Verde was an amazing success and I thank everyone who helped make it happen. Photo-Philanthropy grant application closes in a few short days. Putting the final touches on the application- it is such important work and I have committed myself to one large project a year. Not sure where that will take us this year…

So,thanks for your patience if I am a bit slower to respond to your calls or emails. I may be a bit crazed this time of year but if you look closely, you’ll also see a giant smile! Thank you all for your business!

New Friends in Guatemala on the last Photo Philanthropy trip.

{happy anniversary } portrait session . napa valley

This beautiful couple celebrated their one year anniversary last weekend at Calistoga Ranch. We enjoyed one of those amazing spring evenings exploring the beauty of Napa Valley. It is such a pleasure for me to turn clients into friends and document their joyous celebrations. These two not only know how to have fun & enjoy the love the share, but they are also incredibly generous… such a pleasure to know them.

{Irsay . Foyt Wedding . Calistoga Ranch }

Ok…I tried to narrow down these images…really I did.

This summer I was thrilled to be one of the photographers for Casey Irsay (Indianapolis Colts) & A.J. Foyt IV(Indy/Nascar) extraordinary wedding!  As a photographer, I was in heaven …just so much to capture! Read about all the amazing details below:

Sarah Ghazzagh of A Dream Wedding, was a delight to work with & took on an amazing task of coordinating  multiple events on four different days. Here she writes: The couple was married atop the Lommel Lawn, overlooking the pond at Calistoga Ranch in Calistoga California. The bride was escorted by her father Jim Irsay to a billowing white arch that framed the couple. Upon the conclusion of the ceremony, guests were invited to the wine cave for cocktails and hors d’oeurves where their senses were tantalized. Following the cocktail reception, the guests were shuttled to the Pool Terrace where the visual drama was unfolding to showcase an avant-guard black and white themed reception. What was once a gorgeous pool that overlooked an estate vineyard, had been transformed to a softly light dance floor and a lounge vignette with soaring vases that the guests could mingle about before being treated to a 5-course epicurean delight paired with boutique regional wines. As dusk began to slowly transition to night, the soft illuminations created a romantic and spectacular backdrop for Casey & Anthony’s first dance into cake cutting. Later that evening, guests were transported back up to the wine cave where a big transformation had taken place to turn the formal cocktail reception venue into a chic nightclub. The afterparty was well attended until wee hours of the morning!

My college roommate & designer extraordinaire Lisa Hoffman of Ceci New York did all fine stationery…which were stylish little works of art unto themselves!

The florals were off the hook!! Here Jessica of Fleurs de France describes the vision. “The wedding was themed in Black & White, with an Avant Garde twist. Touches of deep reds accented the sleek styled After Party in the Wine Cave. Towering Silver vases filled with enormous lush florals were placed at each corner of the pool, which was turned into their lighted dance floor, and whose exterior perimeter was lined with several dozen floral arrangements.”
